Remembering Assets High School Teacher Len Black

It is with deep sadness that we share that longtime Assets High School teacher, Len Black, passed away on August 15.

"Lennie meant the world to our Assets ohana,” Assistant Head of School and Admissions Director Sandi Tadaki said. “A patient, adept, and compassionate teacher, he turned many high school students from math haters into math lovers because, through his deliberate instruction, they found success that had long eluded them. Though he could sometimes be gruff, Lennie was mostly funny, caring, loving, thoughtful, and kind. The adjectives one could use to describe him would fill a book. Lennie's past students and colleagues are mourning his loss."

Lennie joined our Assets ‘ohana in June 1992 and retired in May 2016 after 14 years of selfless service. His retirement came one year after his dream of us occupying the former AOP campus became a reality. After he retired, he sponsored the Len Black Award, a monetary gift for a graduating Assets senior who showed resilience and grit. Lennie was an amiable guy with a heart of gold.

If you would like to express condolences, email Assistant Head of School and Admissions Director Sandi Tadaki at stadaki@assets-school.org.

There is no word of any service at this time.
