Assets Wins Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation Mural Contest

We are proud to announce that our Art Enrichment students have won the 2025 Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation School Mural Contest! The theme, “Save the Bees, Protect the Trees, Clean the Seas!”, inspired our young artists to turn environmental advocacy into action through creative expression.

With guidance from Art Teacher Ms. Avery, students used upcycled materials to design a vibrant mural that highlights the importance of protecting Hawai‘i’s ecosystems and reducing plastic pollution. Their entry was selected for its creativity, message, and commitment to sustainability through “ARTivism”—art that sparks activism.

“We are incredibly inspired by the students at Assets School for their innovative and thoughtful approach to 'Save the Bees, Protect the Trees, Clean the Seas',” said Samatha Carroll, Plastic Free Hawai’i Program Manager,  Kōkua Hawai'i Foundation. “Their project exemplifies the spirit of environmental stewardship and community engagement that we strive to cultivate throughout our island homes.”

As part of the award, our K-8 campus will receive a new Elkay water refill station to promote plastic-free hydration. Our students will also receive a Plastic Free Hawai'i educational presentation to further empower them to make eco-conscious choices.

Mahalo to the Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation for this exciting opportunity and for recognizing the power of student voices—and artwork—in protecting our planet!
