We are delighted that two members of the Assets School community were recognized at the National Philanthropy Day Conference in Waikiki on November 14, 2025. Rear Admiral Alma Grocki, U.S. Navy (Ret.), parent of an Assets alumnus, was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser in Philanthropy Award, and the late Kitty Yannone, our former Board Chair, was honored with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award in Memoriam. Their leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to strengthening our community continue to inspire us all. We invite you to watch the videos below to learn more about their remarkable contributions and the lasting impact they have made in the community.

More about Rear Admiral Alma Grocki, U.S. Navy (Ret.) and the late Kitty Yannone:

Rear Admiral Alma Grocki, U.S. Navy (Ret.): A former Assets School parent, Alma Grocki has been a trailblazer in our school community. “Alma is a fierce ambassador, educating others about giftedness, dyslexia, and language-based learning differences, and emphasizing the importance of early intervention,” says Linda Jameson Myers. “Her engagement across multiple nonprofit organizations reflects her belief in service and her broad impact on the local community.”

In addition to supporting the school through promotional television news segments, Alma also creates and donates several hand-crafted jewelry pieces to our Illumination Gala online auction—an annual highlight. These highly sought-after, one-of-a-kind pieces can only be found in the auction, making them uniquely meaningful.

Kitty Yannone: Catherine “Kitty” Yannone was the owner and CEO of Communications-Pacific, a public relations firm. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to making a meaningful difference through philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. She was known for mentoring thousands of students in her internship program, serving on several boards in our community and most notably, creating the first Ronald McDonald House on Oahu.

Through many of the boards she was a part of, one of those was Assets School. Since 2011, she has helped the school through providing strategic leadership and later served as a chair in our Board of Trustees in 2019.
