ILLUMINATION 2025 – A TUITION ASSISTANCE FUNDRAISER

We honored Trustee McD Philpotts and his ‘ohana at the Illumination Gala on Saturday, March 29, at Waialae Country Club.

McD, the owner of Mountain Wood Farm and Hawaiian Furniture, has served on our Board of Trustees since 2007. His connection to our school runs deep—his sons, Alika and Kainoa, are proud Assets alumni, and McD himself is a graduate of Academy of the Pacific, the historic campus now home to our High School.

“I know what it is like to not have Assets and what it is like to have Assets,” McD shared. “We have to make sure Assets is always in our community to help the children we serve.”

Assets School is the only school in Hawai‘i specializing in educating children who are gifted, dyslexic, or have other language-based learning differences. Every year, we witness students discover their strengths and grow in confidence—transformations that ripple through their families and futures.

We honored Trustee Russell Lau and his 'ohana at the Illumination Gala on Saturday, April 13, at The Pacific Club. Russell, the Chairman and CEO of Finance Factors, Ltd., and his wife, Connie, have been an integral part of our school community for nearly three decades. Russell joined our Board of Trustees 28 years ago when Russell and Connie's sons attended Assets. The Lau family's unwavering support has been pivotal in shaping the success of our school. Russell is always enthusiastic sharing why he treasures Assets School.

Russell has been a fierce leader over the years, serving on numerous committees and supporting the Illumination Gala, Annual Fund, and our capital campaigns, as well as being instrumental in the Academy of the Pacific merger that resulted in the acquisition of our Alewa Heights campus for the High School.

Illumination is our most important fundraiser to help students who need a life-changing Assets education to be able to attend our world-class school.

Mahalo for supporting Illumination 2023 -- A Tuition Assistance Fundraiser

The bidding has ended on Assets School's Illumination 2023 Tuition Assistance Fundraiser virtual auction at assetsschool.givesmart.com. 

Our theme  was "Expanding our Roots" as we expanded our presence in the community by opening the Transforming Lives Center in June 2022. Our Clinical Director offers assessments for dyslexia or language-based learning differences to (K-12) homeschooled, public, private, or charter school students.

In January 2023, Assets School won the Hawaii State Robotics FTC Championship! Our students were now invited to compete in the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas in April. Last year, 51 countries participated in this prestigious event. We were excited to showcase Hawaii and won the third place 2023 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship Edison Division Connect Award.

Out of our student body of 325 students, we have 104 students in need of financial aid. Illumination is our key fundraiser to help students who need a life-changing Assets education to be able to attend our world-class school.

This year we were honored to have Capt. William M. Shepherd USN (ret.), a former NASA astronaut and Commander of "Expedition One" to the new Space Station, as our virtual keynote speaker for Assets School's Illumination Gala on April 9th at The Pacific Club. Capt. Shepherd, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, has logged 159 days in space and is the recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. We are also grateful for the time he spent with our students sharing his historic journeys.

Illumination 2021 Raised Funds for Tuition Assistance
