At Assets, we get ahead of trends that could affect one's health. We are always thankful when former parents volunteer to return to campus to share their knowledge. Our fifth-to eighth-grade students were lucky to have Dr. Kevin Hara, a pulmonologist from Pali Momi Medical Center, educate them about the dangers of vaping. Dr. Hara spoke to them about the long-term risks of vaping and smoking. Students (pictured above) looked at two sets of pig lungs—one healthy (pink) and one damaged (gray) by vaping.
Savi '30 shared that she learned smoking can kill you. "Do not smoke! Even if you do it one time, this will affect you forever. A person vaped one time and almost died."
"The reason they invented vaping is because of nicotine, which is from tobacco," Kaimana '30 said. "I'm going to tell my parents what I learned."
Dr. Hara's two sons, Ryan and Jason '16, attended Assets School. Dr. Hara spoke to our High School students in October at Damon Hall. Dr. Hara's wife, Dr. Nora Hara, was a long-time Assets Parent 'Ohana leader.
