Students in Assets Summer School and Ke Kula Pa’ani Summer Camp had a great time. Thank you to all the hard-working teachers, counselors, alumni, and Assets students who made our Kindergarten to High School Summer School and the Ke Kula Pa'ani Summer Camp an educational experience.
At the High School Summer School, Evan ‘26 took blacksmithing and leather working class from Mr. Christopher Greywolf and History Through Table Top Gaming from Mr. Larry Shelvey.
“My favorite is hard to choose because both classes were fun, but I would have to choose Table Top Games because I had done it during my second year of high school and was familiar with it. I enjoy strategizing with my teammates and reenacting historic battles since I already liked U.S. History."
K-8 Summer School student Jordyn ’33 told her parents she really enjoyed summer school.
“She said their class was lucky to have Mr. Castello, as they made their own robots and got to do cool things with them,” said Jordyn’s parents, Renee and Paul Sakamoto.
Special thanks go to Tori '26, a teacher's aide in Mrs. Bridgman's kindergarten to second-grade class, and alumna Sydney Hoevel '21, a teacher’s assistant in one of the third- and fourth-grade classes.
On the final day of the Ke Kula Pa’ani Summer Camp, the campers chose their favorite activities to do, which included playing dodgeball and a game called "Predator vs Prey."
Jordyn ‘33 has also attended the summer camp for the past four years.
“Jordyn LOVES summer camp!” her parents, Renee and Paul Sakamoto, said. “She said the leaders make it fun for all the kids, and she likes playing with all her friends. Water day on Friday is her absolute favorite activity with the pools and big slides! And this year she's super excited to be invited to night camp. For us, it's convenient that the school offers great summer options and it's satisfying to know Jordyn is having fun engaging in a variety of activities each day.”
“It’s fun!” Collin ‘30 shared. “I love the games and the food.”
Collin’s parents, Marites and Kyle McKee, said he feels very comfortable there, thanks to the wonderful staff, and he enjoys the variety of themed activities offered at camp.
“Each summer, he continues to have fun and make new friends,” they said. “Collin particularly looks forward to water day, the field trips, and the exciting night event at the end of the program, where he gets to hang out and play games with his friends on campus in the evening--what a unique addition to summer camp! The staff consistently introduces new events and activities each summer, keeping the experience fresh and engaging. We are grateful to Assets Schools for providing such enriching summer programs and for having a caring staff that supports our son both inside and outside the classroom.”
Jamison Hager ‘24 is one of the camp counselors, like many others, who used to be a camper herself. It’s such an enjoyable experience, she plans to be a camp counselor next year.
“We get along really well because we know each other from school and camp,” Jamison said about her fellow counselors.
Kudos to our Ke Kula Pa'ani counselors and Assets alumni: Ian Murakami ‘16, Cody Okamura ‘20, Brenden Locquiao ‘23, Brady Lee ‘24, Jamison Hager ‘24, and Noah Singer ‘26 for their support. We also appreciate our current Assets High School students, Abigail ‘26 and Zac ‘25, for their roles as junior leaders, in addition to Wylan ‘28 and Hiwa ‘28, our junior leaders in training.
Rounding out the summer camp leadership team is Camp Director Branden Kawazoe, along with Elliot Buccat, Norine Ishii, Tyler Kamita, Hunter Dias, Kaiona Kim-Johnson, and Junior Leaders Darcie Ann Locquiao, Michael Schulaner, Skylie Slavens, and Heiden Grubbs.
