Our High School Hawaiian History and Hawaiian Language students learned how to make laulau, a traditional dish of fish or meat wrapped in leaves.
“Each student learned to clean and prep the taro leaves, wrapped their laulau, which they labeled with their name, cooked, then ate what they made,” said Kumu Nalani Badua.
This hands-on experience deepened their connection to Hawaiian culture and reinforced their learning by blending language, history, and culinary skills. Students plan to make laulau at home in the future. They also had a few extra to share with others.
