The air was filled with the delicious aroma of Thanksgiving delights as kindergarten to eighth-grade students and staff gathered at the K-8 campus on Wednesday, November 22. The day was set for a special luncheon, a celebration of gratitude and togetherness.
Laughter and chatter echoed as friends and colleagues shared the season's joy. The anticipation for the feast ahead added an extra layer of excitement to the ambiance.
Performances by talented students showcased their creativity and added to the day's festive spirit. The room was alive with energy, laughter, and the shared enjoyment of the performances. One of the highlights of the lunch was a musical presentation coordinated by Music teacher Christi Espinoza. Ms. Christi adapted a children's game to create a musical production that showed Farmer Juno '34 giving her turkey to President Lincoln, played by Asher ‘34. What resulted was the first presidential pardon of a turkey. Click here to see the musical presentation.
To encourage sustainable practices, all students who brought their own fork received a raffle ticket. Emcee Leilani ’28 pulled the number; Alapa’i ‘34 won a $20 Target gift card. The other event emcee was Rowan '29.
The Thanksgiving luncheon at the K-8 campus became more than just a meal; it celebrated gratitude and the bonds that make the school community unique.
For the Mindful Moment, Mrs. Thompson read part of a poem by Jack Kornfield.
With gratitude, I remember the people, animals, plants, insects, creatures of the sky and sea, air and water, fire and earth, all whose joyful exertion blesses my life every day.
With gratitude, I remember the care and labor of a thousand generations of elders and ancestors who came before me.
I offer my gratitude for the blessing of this earth I have been given.
I offer my gratitude for the measure of health I have been given.
I offer my gratitude for the family and friends I have been given.
I offer my gratitude for the community I have been given.
I offer my gratitude for the teachings and lessons I have been given.
I offer my gratitude for the life I have been given.
