Our High School Calculus class students recently learned how limits and derivatives affect vertical asymptotes, horizontal asymptotes, and slant asymptotes. An asymptote exists as a part of a complex rational equation graph that provides guidelines on how to graph them. Understanding how they work is vital for those interested in engineering, math, and other fields. Horizontal asymptotes can be applied in finance to empower people to make decisions about economic policies and business trends.
Assets Director of Robotics and High School Math teacher Peter Han said Calculus is applied in many areas of life.
"Any students interested in pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree post-high school should try Calculus," said Mr. Han. "While Calculus isn't necessary to get into a STEM major, it prepares students early and better prepares students for higher-level math courses in the future."
"Math is magical," said Sharese '24, a Mr. Han's Calculus class student.
Calculus is used wherever there is change, such as in space exploration, telecommunications systems, computer science, engineering, medicine, business, and other areas.
