A Day of Purpose: Make a Difference Day

On Make a Difference Day, high school students stepped into the community to dedicate their time and energy to service projects across Oʻahu. From mālama ʻāina efforts to supporting local organizations, students demonstrated compassion, responsibility, and a strong commitment to giving back.

This year’s service sites included:
  • Card Writing (High School Campus): Students wrote heartfelt messages for U.S. troops, kūpuna, and patients in hospitals, spreading encouragement and care to those who need it most.
  • Hawaiʻi Foodbank (Kalihi): Volunteers assisted with food sorting and distribution efforts to help address food insecurity in our community.
  • Kako`o O`iwi (Kaneohe): students worked in the the loʻi and other wetland areas
  • Beach Cleanups (Ala Moana Beach and Kailua): Teams collected debris along shorelines, helping to protect Hawaiʻi’s coastal ecosystems and marine life.
  • Maluhia Adult Day Health Center (Kalihi): students participated in active games like volleyball, bowling, and ring toss, as well as one-on-one socialization and reading
  • High School Campus Beautification: Students worked together to remove old technology equipment from classrooms, clean and organize the art classroom, and create a new rock garden. 

Make a Difference Day is a powerful reminder that meaningful change begins with small, intentional actions. Whether restoring loʻi, caring for animals, or brightening someone’s day with a handwritten card, our students showed that service takes many forms—and all of them matter.
